500+ Elementary Students Will Participate In SAE International's AWIM JetToy Competition During SAE 2016 World Congress

More than 500 elementary school students from 31 schools will participate in the 10th Annual A World In Motion® (AWIM) International Jet Toy Competition, Wednesday, April 13, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Hall D, Cobo Center, Detroit.

Warrendale, PA (PRWEB) - More than 500 elementary school students from 31 schools will participate in the 10th Annual A World In Motion® (AWIM) International Jet Toy Competition, Wednesday, April 13, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Hall D, Cobo Center, Detroit.

The JetToy Challenge, which is hosted by SAE International and sponsored by Johnson Controls, KIA, BOSCH, TRW and Henkel, is set up as a friendly competition where students (in Engineering Design Teams of 4) compete in distance, accuracy, weight carrying and timed events.

“The JetToy Competition is unique in that it enables students, teachers and volunteers to come together and share their engineering skills and knowledge,” Chris Ciuca, Director of Pre-Professional Programs, SAE International, said. “We appreciate the support from all of our sponsors. They truly are helping to bring STEM education to life for students.”

Each AWIM activity incorporates a curriculum built around the "Engineering Design Experience," and requires students to work in teams to solve a “challenge” to design, build and test a product. In addition, an industry volunteer works in the classroom to assist teachers with AWIM content delivery and serve as a role model, community liaison and professional resource. This winning combination of a pedagogically sound curriculum, teacher professional development, and the use of STEM professionals in the classroom is proven to be effective. AWIM is working to engage and inspire students at the earliest age possible to pursue STEM subjects and careers.
