Meadowview Elementary School Reports 55% Increase In Literacy Scores Following Implementation Of AWE's Digital Learning Solutions In Kindergarten Classrooms

Meadowview Elementary partnered with AWE, Inc. in 2013 to implement literacy-focused blended learning in its kindergarten classrooms.

Chester, PA (PRWEB) - Meadowview Elementary School in Georgia (DeKalb County School District) has released data from its 2013-2014 school year showing an average improvement of 55% in literacy scores across its four kindergarten classrooms according to STAR assessment results.

Meadowview’s kindergarten literacy leap validated the blended learning environment created by Principal Norman H. Thomas, Jr. and his staff, who use AWE’s Student Learning Centers™ in classroom and lab settings to supplement existing literacy curriculum with digital content correlated to targeted Common Core and individual state standards. A leading provider of educational solutions for PreK-Grade 3, AWE helped Meadowview create Personalized Education Plans (PEPs™) tailored to the learning trajectory of each of its kindergarten students and supplied data to help teachers adjust those PEPs as the year progressed.

“Meadowview has a very intentional rotation with the Student Learning Centers. They have two in each classroom and eight in the media center,” said Jami Minard, the AWE account executive that is overseeing the implementation. “The school has made a commitment to this blended learning strategy for its youngest students and it is really showing great results.”

Meadowview’s transition to a blended learning strategy was both effective and popular. Thomas and his staff noted an uptick in engagement among the kindergartners, who enjoyed interacting with AWE’s touchscreen computers and game-based software during their digital rotations. Each student spent about two hours per week on the Student Learning Centers, working on an array of literacy-based activities focused on everything from letter recognition and phonemic awareness to reading comprehension.

Thomas was recently recognized by the DeKalb County School District as a leading principal in the district for these kinds of programs and the impressive impact and results he and his staff are producing at Meadowview.
