The Glenholme School Is Accepting Applications To Its Transition Program

The Glenholme School, a boarding school for young people with special needs, is now accepting applications for the 2016-17 Transition Program, which is designed to help individuals prepare for college and careers after graduating high school.

Washington, CT (PRWEB) - The Glenholme School is now accepting applications for its 2016 – 2017 Transition Program. The program has several immediate openings available for young people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other learning differences. For those students who might not be ready for the challenges and pressures of college or career life, a year of independent growth may be a beneficial short-term answer.

The Glenholme Transition Program offers just that for young adults, ages 18 to 21, who are challenged with ASD and various learning differences. At Glenholme, transition students receive the necessary support to strengthen their life skills through vocational and academic opportunities not afforded in many post-secondary educational settings. In the transition program, students develop at their individual pace. Finding success can start by taking a class at a local community college, with job coaching in a vocation they plan to pursue, and focused instruction.

A blend of strategic day-to-day components, such as cooking meals, handling medications, and managing a household are similarly taught. Such skills are critical for a young person to develop the independence required to lead thriving lives. Instruction and support are provided by experienced life coaches.

The program provides classes and other instructional opportunities. Students benefit from courses in Independent and Healthy Living, Money Management, Executive Functioning, Healthy Relationships and Time Management. Many choose vocations and have interned at veterinary offices, automotive shops, child care settings, hardware stores, bakeries and restaurants. Glenholme is continuously developing methods to change lives and nurture human potential by delivering quality programs designed to help students with disabilities graduate high school and find success in adulthood.
