Carnegie Learning Selected As Middle And High School Math Curriculum Provider For Wichita Public Schools

Carnegie Learning, Inc., a leading provider of innovative research-proven math products and services, has been selected by Wichita Public Schools as the new math curriculum provider for students in grades 6-12.

The district needed a strong, cohesive curriculum aligned to the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards. Wichita students currently perform below the state average on annual assessments, and about one in five is on track to be ready for college-level work in math.1

In Spring and Fall 2016, pilot teacher taskforces, made up of 26 middle school teachers and 32 high school teachers, evaluated four different curriculum programs. “There was one curriculum that stood out amongst all the others,” says Tiffinie Irving, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services at Wichita Public Schools. “It was just overwhelming in the comments from our teachers. They spoke very highly of it.”

The Wichita school board approved a $4.3 million deal with Carnegie Learning to serve as their core math curriculum provider for the next seven years. Middle and high school Wichita students will begin using the Carnegie Learning curriculum in the Fall. Carnegie Learning will also provide ongoing professional development to help Wichita teachers create student-centered learning environments.

“We are thrilled to help Wichita Public Schools transform math learning for their students,” says Barry Malkin, CEO of Carnegie Learning. “We look forward to working with them every step of the way to provide the best math instruction possible and prepare their students for college and career success.”
