Florida School District Taps Prestigious Cambridge Programs To Expand College-Level Coursework

Collier County Public Schools collaborates with a department of the University of Cambridge to deliver world-class educational options to students from grades K-12

Naples, FL /PRNewswire/ - Beginning in August, Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) will begin utilizing Cambridge International Examinations programs in 46 out of 47 of the schools within the district. A department of the world renowned University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England, Cambridge International Examinations provides high-rigor courses of study that allow students to develop critical thinking skills in an engaging academic environment while developing an in-depth understanding of the global community.

"We are committed to providing educational opportunities that equip students with the skills and content they will need to compete in an increasingly global workforce," said Dr. Kamela Patton, Superintendent of CCPS. "After working with Cambridge since 2011, we knew they were the right partner to bring our students rigorous, expanded options for their education, and challenge them to meet truly global expectations."

Collier County Public Schools joins 24 other Florida districts, including Palm Beach County, Miami-Dade County, and Broward County, in using Cambridge international education programs and qualifications, widely recognized by the world's best universities and employers, to give students better options in their education and career. The district announced the decision to expand its collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations as part of its 2017-2019 strategic plan.

"At Cambridge, we work with schools and districts to build programs that prepare students for success in education and employment," said Michael O'Sullivan, CEO of Cambridge International Examinations. "We are glad to expand our collaboration with Collier County Public Schools and give more students across the district the opportunity to develop their skills in independent learning, critical thinking, research and communication, so they are ready to take on future challenges."

Every year, nearly a million students from 10,000 schools in 160 countries prepare for their future with an international education from Cambridge. Collier County Public Schools, whose students have outperformed the State in 18 out of 22 accountability areas, serves more than 47,000 total students in 29 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 8 high schools, and a PreK-thru-12 school.
