Perceptive Software and the University of Kansas School of Engineering to build on program's first-year success in rewarding high school teachers

Perceptive Software, creator of enterprise content management solutions including ImageNow®, announced recently that nominations are open for the 2011-2012 Educating Excellence program. The program was developed in 2010 in partnership with the University of Kansas School of Engineering to recognize outstanding Kansas and Kansas City area high school science, technology, engineering and math teachers.

"We are overwhelmed by the positive response to the Educating Excellence program by our area schools, students and parents," said Scott Coons, Perceptive Software president and CEO. "It's our pleasure to continue recognizing teachers who are making a difference in the lives of students throughout our state and the metro area."

Each month throughout the 2011-2012 academic year, a $1,500 award will be given to an outstanding teacher. Nine teachers in total will be recognized during the upcoming academic year, beginning in September and concluding in May.

"For me to receive the Educating Excellence award is really a confirmation of the hard work that I try to put in with my students." said Shawnee Mission South math teacher Vince LaVergne, the February 2011 Educating Excellence Award winner. "That helps you keep going, helps make all the work worthwhile."

Nominations for science, technology, engineering and math teachers can be submitted online at www.educatingexcellence.org. After a nomination is submitted, the nominator is asked to submit three letters of reference, one each from a current student, colleague and community member. Letters must be submitted by Aug. 1 to meet the fall award deadline or Dec. 1 to meet the spring award deadline. Anyone is eligible to nominate a Kansas or Kansas City area teacher.

A committee composed of Perceptive Software employees and representatives from the University of Kansas School of Engineering will select award recipients. More information about the program is available at www.educatingexcellence.org. Questions can be directed to educatingexcellence@perceptivesoftware.com.
