Antioch University selected ImageNow by Perceptive Software for its ECM solution, eliminating 800 boxes of stored documents posing health hazard

Perceptive Software, creator of enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, including ImageNow document management, imaging and workflow, announced recently that Antioch University recently selected ImageNow for an initial deployment in its Registrar's office to eliminate hundreds of boxes of documents, in part to alleviate some of the major health and storage challenges the institution faced.

"Many people don't realize it, but not having the paper product in your office is actually a lot healthier. There were times when we would go through those boxes and they were filled with mold," said Doug Wamer, Antioch University Director of Record Administration and Compliance Officer.

The Antioch University system has five campuses across the United States. Decision-makers at the Midwest campus in Yellow Springs, Ohio, primarily chose ImageNow as their ECM solution because it could be easily integrated with the existing Datatel system on campus.

The Registrar's office had more than 800 boxes of documents stored in their basement, some dating back to 1972. The office was not only running out of storage space, but also unable to efficiently serve their students due to the inefficiency of their document storage system.

"We ultimately went with ImageNow when we realized how intuitive it was in terms of set up and ease of use. Prior to having ImageNow, we saved everything--information in paper form, microfiche, and microfilm," said Doug Wamer, Antioch University Director of Record Administration and Compliance Officer. "We had over 800 boxes absolutely loaded with education records that we didn't need to keep. With ImageNow, the institution felt safe eliminating the hard copies and moving to the digital form so we could access the information more quickly and better serve our customers.

Wamer said many of the stored boxes were filled with mold. Employees who frequently worked with the documents were getting sick, missing days of work and experiencing a range of health problems.

"Some of our employees working with those documents would get sick for days. Getting rid of the old, moldy paper in storage was a milestone for us--it made for a better, healthier work environment where employees were able to work more efficiently," said Wamer.

Since implementation, Antioch University has continued to expand its use of ImageNow to increase the efficiency of their records storage system and improve the working environment for their employees.
