Reach Cyber Charter School Takes STEM Education On The Road

The tuition-free K-12 cyber school brings new mobile classroom to students in communities across Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, PA (PRWEB) - From online classrooms to mobile classrooms, Reach Cyber Charter School is dedicated to bringing high-quality, interactive science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education to its students wherever they are. This school year, the statewide, tuition-free cyber charter school is gearing up to hit the road with its new technology-equipped STEM bus.

The bus is fitted with 10 built-in workstations, two pushouts for classroom space, a digital smartboard, and an awning and flat screen monitor on the side of the vehicle for open-air learning opportunities. STEM learning is a focus for Reach Cyber, and this new bus will serve as a physical location for its popular STEM camps where students can dive deeper into specific subjects outside of their classes like weather, stream studies, coding, aquaponics, Lego© Robotics and much more.

“One of our main goals with the Reach Cyber STEM bus is to expand educational access by getting resources to our students across the Commonwealth, especially to those in more rural pockets of the state where there may be fewer opportunities to work with this technology and equipment,” said Andy Gribbin, director of STEM education at Reach Cyber Charter School.

In addition to providing students with in-person learning opportunities, the mobile classroom will expand social connections for Reach Cyber students. The school hosts in-person STEM camps and other social events in communities throughout the state each year, but not all can travel to attend these gatherings.

“Reach Cyber always goes above and beyond for our students and now we can go the extra mile, too,” said Gribbin. “We know that we can’t completely eliminate all the roadblocks involved with transportation for our families, but with our STEM bus we can expand our reach and travel to more rural areas where there may not be a local facility like a science center to utilize.”

The STEM bus will also be used to bring more in-person opportunities to Reach Cyber's high school students in its one-of-a-kind Career Readiness Program (formerly known as Career Pathways). Through the program, students have access to start trade education like carpentry, veterinary sciences and cosmetology while still in high school to get a jump start on their career through apprenticeship and internship opportunities.

Reach Cyber’s mobile classroom will take its first adventure at the end of September, traveling to several back-to-school events in Erie, Allentown and Scranton. There, students will have opportunities to complete STEM activities on and off the bus.

Since opening in 2016, Reach Cyber has grown to support nearly 7,000 students in grades K-12. Reach Cyber is committed to providing STEM enrichment opportunities, advanced courses, extracurricular activities, socialization opportunities and modern, easy-to-use technology tools for families looking for a personalized approach to education in a positive online learning environment. Reach Cyber teachers are state-certified and work to foster meaningful connections with students and keep them motivated and engaged. Reach Cyber’s flexible pacing options allow students to choose from a traditional calendar option, year-round option, or for high school students, an accelerated schedule, to best meet their academic and scheduling needs.
